Benefits
of Chemical Peels:

- Improves texture of sun-damaged skin
- Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
- Aids in control of acne, blackheads and oil
- Helps reduce mild scarring
Chemical
peel uses a chemical solution to improve and smooth the
texture of the facial skin by removing its damaged outer
layers. It is helpful for those individuals with facial
blemishes, wrinkles and uneven skin pigmentation. The precise
formula used may be adjusted to meet each patient's needs.
How does it work?
Glycolic acids decrease the "glue" that holds
dead cells on the surface of the skin. This allows some
dead cells to drop away, leaving behind a layer of smoother,
softer skin. Glycolic acid also stimulates the skin to make
new collagen fibers that help to improve wrinkling and the
effects of sun damage. In addition, glycolic acids help
to dissolve the material that clogs pores allowing the pore
to drain better thus decreasing the tendency for acne lesions
to form.
How
many treatments are needed?
Depending on the patient’s needs and expectations,
several treatments may be necessary until the desired effects
are achieved. Generally six sessions are required for most
skin conditions.
What
is the treatment like?
After the skin is properly cleansed, the correct peeling
agent then is applied for the appropriate amount of time.
Then, the peeled area is neutralized, rinsed off and a topical
hydrocortisone cream is applied.
